Maafa
This project teaches children about Africa past and present, with a particular focus on Benin. It traces the development of the slave trade and explores Britain’s role in the transatlantic slave trade, the causes and consequences of the European colonisation of Africa and the worldwide communities that make up the African diaspora.

This project teaches children about the characteristics and features of polar regions, including the North and South Poles, and includes a detailed exploration of the environmental factors that shape and influence them.

This project teaches children about the causes, events and consequences of the First and Second World Wars, the influence of new inventions on warfare, how life in Great Britain was affected and the legacy of the wars in the post-war period.

Home Learning Expectations

Your child will receive maths and SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) to complete every week, alongside the expectation of daily reading. Every term, a list of topic based homework will be sent home that children can complete throughout the term to enrich their learning in other areas of the curriculum.
 

  • Homework will be given to the children on a Monday and is due the following Monday
  • Tasks are always written in homework books and there will be reminders on Class Dojo
  • Extra homework is available for those children who request it
Reading

Children should bring their reading records into school every day. Your child’s chosen Accelerated Reader (library) book should be read every day, either independently or shared with an adult. I encourage reading out loud to an adult at home as much as possible though I appreciate this isn’t possible every day. Children are responsible for recording the book and pages read in their school diary, however reading will only be counted if signed off by an adult at home. Children will have their reading records checked every Friday.

Maths

Whilst online maths homework will not be set every week, children are encouraged to log in to TTRS and Freckle regularly to help with revision and gain points!

Any real-life experience with counting, telling the time, reading data, measuring or handling money is of great value to your child to see maths being used in context. Crucially, however, it is a secure understanding and quick recall of their times table and related division facts which is of most value and will help unlock other areas of mathematics that they find tricky.
